Voice over scripts are simply the spoken word in print recorded by voice over artists who are in turn compensated for their reads and voice acting ability. There are scripts written for commercials, promos, movie trailers, radio imaging, narration for documentaries, and animated characters. They will differ from one another according to their purpose, and each must be taken into account in terms of presentation behind the microphone. Television and radio commercial voice over scripts can describe in detail a product or service available to the consumer, often including "color words" intended to motivate the listener towards making a purchase. These words must be emphasized in such a way as to not sound contrived or untrustworthy. This is critical when reading and recording scripts for car spots and fast food restaurants for instance. Examples of color words for these include: "now", "hottest", "biggest", "outrageous", "huge", "undeniably luxurious", "delicious", "mouth watering", and "finger licking good!" Word and phrase emphasis is employed by the aggressiveness of voice delivery as in "hard-sell" to drive home the point. Here is an example of a hard-sell script for automotive: "It's ending! Clearance savings on thousands of new Honda's are almost gone! It's your last chance, and it's happening NOW, during the final days of your Honda Dealers biggest summer clearance ever! Drive off in a new Accord or Civic and save thousands NOW, with special zero point nine percent financing and clearance deals on America's best value brand! There's never been a better time to buy a fuel efficient Honda! Every new Honda is clearance priced! The biggest Honda summer clearance EVER ends soon, so get to your Honda dealer NOW! It's HUGE...the BIGGEST savings event of the year!" Take note of all of the potential color words. Besides for cars and fast food joints, other commercial scripts that may require hard-sell or "soft-sell" with plenty of color words include political ads. You've heard them, basically a war of the words.

Next, there are scripts for radio imaging. Here's one example: "You're locked in to Yester Radio, here's another great blast from your past!" You'll find a few more written radio imaging liner samples on our radio imaging page. These of course are written for radio stations universally broadcasting in American English. However, many other stations broadcast in different languages such as Spanish. So we as versatile online voice over talent are also prepared in the event we are approached about recording radio imaging voice over in a foreign language. Some examples we've recorded in Spanish include: "Desde el estudio...Lo Nuevo...Pronto primero en Power 103.7"; "Hay un calambre en la radio!"; and "La nueva ciento tres punto siete!". As with commercials, radio imaging will incorporate color words to sell the radio station call letters, frequency numbers, and whether it is music or talk radio format. Here is a voice over script sample we might record for a video narrative: "We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, "Oh me, oh life of the questions of these recurring. Of the endless trains of the faithless. Of cities filled with the foolish. What good amid these, oh me, oh life?" Answer: that you are here. That life exists, and identity. That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?" This is a good example of the use of creative thought to inspire a reaction, like poetic verse, and a worthy challenge that will test the interpretive skills of any astute voice over talent. Of course not all scripts are written as flowery as this narration specimen, while others get right to the point depending on subject matter, intent, duration of usage, media platform utilized for exposure, and category the voice over project fits into.

Voice over scripts for movie trailers vary according to the story plot, whether more emphasis or a subtle approach is taken with the descriptive color words and title. If the movie is science fiction or an adventure of epic proportions, perhaps a bolder, more authoritative approach would be pursued when reading the copy. This is an actual movie trailer voice over script we used: "In the early 1900's, the high priests of space-time and sub-atomic physics... opened a door. The next century of the "High Technology Imperative" gave birth to "Quantum Eugenics". What is happening to the children? Only one woman stands between humanity...and forever! From writer/director BoswelL...Mind Blinders." The same goes for book trailer voice over, particularly if it's a thriller or suspense as in a crime story when a dramatic voice style may work better. This approach may also work best for a best-seller. If it's a fantasy, then perhaps a more storyteller read approach would be taken. Meanwhile, scripts for promos are often very similar to commercials in that they are "selling" something. In these cases it could be a program or an event when the script is "promoting" them in advance. Moving on to voice over scripts for animation and video game voices. These often involve dialogue between the various characters, so a voice over artist's acting ability and versatility can really be stretched to the maximum limit in terms of portraying as realistically and convincingly as possible these believable and lifelike character voices, from verbally swaggering as the heralded triumphant hero to groveling as the ultimately submissive villain. All of these voice over script scenarios fall within our expertise, and we try our best to offer our services as affordably as humanly possible within your project talent budget. CONTACT US NOW.
